Summary of all Available Courses and Fees

Florida Statute 316. If you violate a Florida Law, Your county has the right to punish you. You have the right to try to prove you are innocent. Under this statute, every person who holds a florida license, who gets a citation in the state of florida has three choices. Pay the ticket, (implies guilt, and points are assessed). Pay the ticket and elect a 4hr traffic class. That means you volunteer to go to school and points are withheld. This is considered an implied no contest plea. The third option is to go to court. This would be a not guilty plea. Although the judge will probably try to convince you to change your plea to no contest. If a judge finds you guilty, you may have to pay the ticket, court fees get points and go to traffic school. This is a court order and there is no limit on how many times you may attend traffic school on a court order. Under volunteering for traffic school, you may only elect the 4hr class one time in 12 months and 5 times ever. Dade and Broward county added an extra bonus. If you get a ticket within the 12 months that you already elected the 4 hr class, they allow you to elect and 8 hr class within that 12 month period. Also one time in 12 months and 5 times ever.

ADAPT $35.00 (Meets the same criteria as the START and DATE Programs)

This course covers the consequences of drinking, drugging and driving. It is mandatory by the State of Florida DHSMV in order to obtain a restricted permit.

YOAD – Youthful Offender Program, $45.00 (Meets the same criteria as TOAD and STOP)

This is a court ordered Traffic Course for Teens. This course is specifically for the teenage traffic offender. Discussion is based on current events, common actions among teenagers while driving, and the consequences of their actions. We also cover strategies to help our youth survive the drive.

TCAC – $45.00 Traffic Collision Avoidance Course

This course is MANDATORY, by the State of Florida DHSMV, if you had a collision, and were ticketed and you or any one involved in the collision from either car went to the hospital by ambulance.

Basic Driver Improvement (BDI) 4 hours $40.00 Elected / Court Ordered / DMV MANDATORY (Meets the same criteria as Defensive Driving Course DDS)

This course covers conditions of the road, safe driving techniques and accident prevention strategies. This is also an elective course, approved by the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, to remove points from your record, and to prevent insurance from increasing. This course is also taken for HACK license renewals, and Insurance Reduction. OFFERED BY HAPPY TRAFFIC, INC. (Also available on DVD)

Basic Driver Improvement 8 hours - $80.00 Elected / Court Ordered / DMV MANDATORY (Meets the same criteria as Defensive Driving Course DDS)

This course is more inclusive of other topics such as anti lock brakes, drugs, alcohol and road rage. There is discussion of different driving techniques to reduce risks, and prevent accidents. It is also an elective course only for Dade and Broward County under County Administrative Codes to remove points from your record and to prevent insurance from increasing.

Advanced or Intermediate Driver Improvement 8 hours - $100.00

This course is a court ordered course. It is designed for drivers who get tickets often. We discuss ticket payment policies, statutes, and administrative codes. This class consists of comprehensive discussion of road rage, aggressive driving, street racing, and drugs and alcohol as well as the introduction to basic driving patterns and different safe driving techniques for prevention.

Advanced Driver Improvement 12 hours - $120.00

This is a court ordered course. This course is designed for Transactional Analysis. There is In depth discussion about the psychological and sociological traffic environment. This course includes exercises and activities designed to make the driver understand why they do the things they do and how they can employ certain techniques to prevent different behaviors from occurring.

Aggressive Driving Course 8 hours - $100.00

This is a court ordered course. This course is only about aggressive driving vs road rage. In depth discussion about the differences between them and how both are brought about. Introduction of preventative techniques, how to prevent becoming the aggressor and how to prevent becoming a victim.

DWSL – 12 hours - $120.00

This is also a required course by the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles in order to reinstate licenses that were suspended for a driver having too many points, or suspended licensee applying for a hardship license. This course covers the psychological and sociological traffic environment. It also covers local traffic policies, statutes, rules of the road, conditions and techniques for safe driving
